Effect of heat treatments on the properties of explosive clad plates 2205 DSS-Q345R

  • The 2205-Q345R explosive clad plate is widely adopted due to its exceptional performance of both base plates and cladding plates, where stress relief annealing significantly affects the performance of cladding plates 2205 after explosive bonding. By using inter granular corrosion, metallographic, tensile, bending, and other approaches, the corrosion resistance, microstructures, and mechanical properties of 2205-Q345R clad plates are studied, after the plates are prepared with explosive bonding methods and treated with different heat treatment processes. The results show that the corrosion resistance, strength, and bending properties of clad plates under the stress relief annealed at 480~600℃ exceed the relevant criterion and successfully meet the requirements of customers. By comprehensively considering the precipitated phases of cladding plate 2205 as well as the residual stress of clad plates, "540~560℃/1~4 h, furnace cooling until 300℃, then air cooling" is suggested as the optimum heat treatment.
