Numerical Simulations of Ship Grounding Using ABAQUS

  • Ship grounding should be considered as a critical factor in the design of ship bottom. A general commercial FEA package ABAQUS/Explicit is used to model and analyze the dynamic behavior during ship grounding. Ship bo ttom grounding performances, such as deformation due to damage, grounding forces and energy absorption, are obtained and compared under the combination of varied grounding positions and friction coefficients. Some conc lusions are drawn and can be advices to ship grounding evaluation and design optimization.
